Project Overview

WeDots is an app designed to answer the question: "What do I do tonight? Where do I go? Where can I meet new people?"

The app is based on a map that activates only during evening hours, where registered users can see nightlife venues, restaurants, pubs, breweries, and clubs, and view how many people are present, broken down by gender. Users are displayed on the map as pink or blue dots, and it's possible to filter the map by interests, age, and other criteria.

The platform monetizes through paid plans and subscriptions for venues, which can access marketing tools and promotional features to attract more visitors.

Note: This project remained in its design phase and was not developed.

The Problem

People often struggle with the question: "What do I do tonight? Where do I go? Where can I meet new people?" Existing apps and platforms don't provide real-time information about venue occupancy, crowd demographics, or the social atmosphere of different locations.

Key challenges for users:

  • Lack of real-time information — no way to know how crowded a venue is before arriving
  • No demographic insights — can't see the gender balance or age range of attendees
  • Limited discovery — difficult to find new places that match personal interests
  • No social context — can't gauge the social atmosphere or meet new people easily
  • Time-sensitive decisions — need information specifically for evening/night activities

WeDots was designed to solve these challenges by providing a real-time, map-based social discovery platform that helps users make informed decisions about where to spend their evenings.

Design Concept

The app features a map-based interface that activates only during evening hours, creating a time-sensitive, event-driven experience. Registered users can see various venues including:

Nightlife venues — clubs and nightlife spots
Restaurants — dining establishments
Pubs and breweries — casual drinking spots
Discos — dance venues

Each venue displays real-time occupancy information, showing how many people are present, broken down by gender (male/female). Users are represented on the map as pink dots (female) or blue dots (male), providing immediate visual feedback about the crowd composition.

The map includes advanced filtering options that allow users to customize their view based on:
Interests — filter venues by type of activity or music genre
Age range — see venues with attendees in specific age groups
Gender balance — filter by preferred crowd composition
Distance — find venues within a specific radius

This design approach creates a social discovery platform that helps users make informed decisions about where to spend their evenings while providing opportunities to meet new people with similar interests.

UX & UI Design

I designed a mobile-first interface centered around an interactive map that becomes the primary navigation and discovery tool during evening hours. The map interface is intuitive and visually engaging, with color-coded dots (pink for female users, blue for male users) providing immediate visual feedback about venue demographics.

The design emphasizes real-time information and quick decision-making, with venue cards that can be expanded to show detailed information including occupancy, gender breakdown, age range, and user reviews. The filtering system is easily accessible but non-intrusive, allowing users to quickly refine their search without cluttering the map view.

Special attention was given to privacy and user control, ensuring that users can control their visibility and choose what information to share. The interface is designed to be social yet respectful, creating a safe environment for meeting new people while maintaining user privacy preferences.

The design creates a vibrant, engaging experience that makes discovering nightlife venues and meeting new people feel natural and exciting.

Monetization Strategy

The platform monetizes through a dual revenue model that serves both end users and venue partners.

User Subscriptions
The app offers paid plans for users who want access to premium features such as advanced filtering, priority visibility, detailed analytics, and enhanced matching capabilities. Free users have access to basic map functionality, while premium subscribers unlock the full social discovery experience.

Venue Subscriptions
Venues can subscribe to access marketing tools and promotional features that help them attract more visitors. These tools include:
Promoted listings — increased visibility on the map
Analytics dashboard — insights into visitor demographics and peak times
Marketing campaigns — targeted promotions to specific user segments
Event management — tools to create and promote special events

This business model creates value for both sides of the marketplace: users get better discovery and social opportunities, while venues gain access to a new marketing channel and real-time customer insights.
